10 Day Instrument Rating Course

Description

This intensive course provides all instruction for the instrument rating. The day begins at 8:00 am, and ends at about 6:00 pm. There are breaks planned throughout the day, including a lunch break, often at a different airport. All instrument pilot subject areas will be covered in depth, with special attention paid to decision making, emergencies, partial panel flight, and IFR communications.

Prerequisites

  • Instrument pilot knowledge exam completed 70% or better
  • Private Pilot rating
  • 47 hours PIC cross country time
  • 7 hours of simulated/actual instrument time
  • 5 hours flown in the last month
  • Proficiency in basic VFR operations, including
    • VFR radio communication
    • normal and crosswind landings
    • slow flight
    • steep turns
    • stalls
    • using Performance charts
    • familiarity with VFR weather minimums
